The Chittendon Locks is a fun destination for kids and grown-ups. I used to come here with my dad when I was young and marvel at the giant fish making their way up the fish ladders. It is amazing that these fish return to the same spot they were born to lay their own eggs despite the locks. The US Army Corps of Engineers, who manage probably close to 100 dams in the PNW alone have a huge mandate to allow an acceptable fish habitat at all these facilities. It is quite an undertaking.

Nico and Julian also loved watching the boats come through the locks and seeing the water flood in and out. It is a fascinating operation. (Although we were kept pretty busy just keeping the boys from dangling themselves too far over the water.)
