The other day our cat, Zizou, came and found me in the other room and had a certain look in his eyes. I followed him to the dining room where he had deposited a tiny, grey, fuzzy creature. It was so young it didn't have its eyes open and couldn't walk. I made it a shoebox bed and hid it deep in some bushes away from our house, certain that Zizou wouldn't find it. Later that night, the little creature reappeared in our house. After doing some quick googling, I realized this was a baby rat (having originally thought it was a mouse) and it was most likely that Zizou found a nest of them nearby and was just returning to it and picking out the next plumpest one. I felt bad for the tiny babies and looked into some animal rescue type places but ended up just keeping Zizou indoors until the mommy rat could move her babies to a new location. |
